Abstract:Objective: To evaluate the diagnostic value of achilles tendon rupture by MR images. Methods: MRI findings in 21 patients with operatively proved acute achilles tendon rupture were analyzed, and manifestations of MR and operation were compared. Results: The achilles tendon rupture was diagnosed on MRI in 21 cases. Achilles tendon complete rupture was showed in 7 cases, partial rupture in 14 cases. MRI appearance of achilles tendon rupture represented achilles tendon thickening, hyperintensity in tendon, completely or partially discontinuous fibrous bundle. Operation showed achilles tendon complete rupture in 9 cases, partially rupture in 12 cases. Conclusion: MRI can accurately show the degree and portion of acute achilles tendon rupture, which is very helpful for treatment.
