Abstract:Objective: To explore the effect of hypoxia on carotid compliance and related cytokines in anti-seismic soldiers acute exposed to high altitude by using wave intensity(WI) technology and detection of changes of hypoxia induced factor(HIF-1α) and vascular endothelial growth factor(VEGF). Methods: One hundred anti-seismic soldiers acutely exposed to plateau within seven days at Yushu(the high altitude group) and one hundred healthy soldiers living on the plains(the control group) were enrolled, pressure-strain elastic modulus(Ep), stiffness parameter(β), arterial compliance(AC), argumentation index(AI) and pulse wave velocity(PWV-WI) were detected using WI technology, meanwhile VEGF and HIF-1α were measured. Results: Compared with the control group, HIF-1α, VEGF and PWV-WI were higher in the high altitude group(P<0.05). The Ep, β, AC, AI had no significant different between the two groups(P>0.05). Conclusions: In a hypoxia environment, increased HIF-1α and VEGF may had a regulating effect on carotid compliance. Carotid artery elasticity-pulse wave velocity is a sensitive variable reflecting acute high altitude hypoxia reaction.
