Abstract:Objective: To assess functional parameters of left ventricle by using 64-slice multislice computed tomography(MSCT) and to compare the results of MRI, and investigate the accuracy of data obtained from MSCT coronary angiography in the assessment of left ventricular function. Materials and Methods: End diastolic volume(EDV), end systolic volume(ESV), stroke volume(SV), ejection fraction(EF), and myocardial mass(MM) were calculated based on CT data sets from 20 patients scheduled for noninvasive MSCT angiography of the coronary arteries because of suspected coronary artery disease(CAD). The results from MSCT were compared with MRI. Results: There was no significant difference among the measurements for MSCT and MRI of the ventricular function parameters. A strong correlation between MSCT and MRI(r=0.72~0.92) was found for all parameters. However, EDV, ESV, SV and MM were overestimated with MSCT compared to MRI. While EF was underestimated in MSCT. Conclusions: A strong correlation between MSCT and MRI was found for all parameters. ECG-gated MSCT angiography of the heart is noninvasive assessment of the coronary tree, whereas the analysis of left ventricular parameters provides additional information of cardiac function without further radiation exposure.
